Pike Township Fire Station No. 61 and Headquarters, Indianapolis, IN

The scope of work included demolition of the existing building and re-development of the property for the new building and site circulation. The station is a unique 2 ½-story design to maximize layout efficiencies. It minimizes wasted volumes and allows for a compact design with clear separations between the headquarters and the fire station. The new facility includes special features to reduce firefighters’ exposure to carcinogens including but not limited to direct exhaust systems within the apparatus bays and a special gear room with a dedicated ventilation system. Temporary living quarters were added to a 2-bay garage located directly behind the station to accommodate the crews during the new construction. After completion of the new firehouse, this building became classroom space for training.
