The right-of-way restrictions resulted in very tight curved ramps and substantial amounts of retaining wall. A new semi-directional ramp was included to carry southbound Calumet Avenue traffic onto eastbound Interstate I-80/94. Included in this ramp is a 1,055-foot land bridge, which traverses I-80/94 and Calumet Avenue. The uniqueness of this bridge is its superstructure, which is composed of a horizontally curved steel box girder with a nine-inch composite concrete slab. With these restrictions and consideration in mind, the RQAW Team found the horizontally curved steel box girder best satisfied these conditions.
